Royal iQ App Reviews

Not connected to Royal WiFi

App has no functionality on my iPhone - just states the obvious that Im not on board. I had believed the app could be used before cruises to book restaurants, entertainment etc but at this point it appears functionless on land.

Will Eventually Be Excellent, But Not Yet

I am currently wrapping up a cruise on the transatlantic maiden voyage of Quantum of the Seas. The app has not worked on iOS devices for most of the cruise. On its best day, it displayed our daily event schedule (shows and dining mostly) and allowed us to make dining reservations. Most of the other functionality did not perform at all. As of Day 3 of the cruise, the app froze and hasnt worked since for any passenger. The staff even removed all of the tablets from the common user stations, although they were returned a day and a half later. I believe that Royal Caribbean has taken the app down for an overhaul. That said, the concept is terrific. If/when it performs as advertised, it will provide great convenience and easy access to information. The goal is to make cruise travel paperless -- no printed activity schedules, no papers to sign at Guest Services, etc. Some of these functions (signing releases for activities, viewing bills and more) are also available on the in-room TV, so you do have an alternative method of getting core info. The finer points of the app such as changing entertainment options, changing dining reservations, ordering room service, and online chat were not available to us on this sailing. Royal Caribbean has had lots of system issues on this sailing, including data loss at Guest Services, repeated elevator failures, processing glitches with dining reservations causing long lines at dinnertime, slow updates to the digital photo archive, etc. However, they have also had a large IT staff onboard and are pouring lots of resources into fixing the problems. Its clear that the cruise line wants this app to succeed and will do what it takes to get it working quickly. I suspect that guests who sail on Quantum 90 days from now will have a much different and better experience.

Yey

Im so excited to be going on the quantum on 11-23-14 hope there is more to do for my are (18) and May be this app will help me

Doesnt work. Expensive Internet

Nice idea but execution is weak. Chat is 14.95 and does not support group. Regular fails. Reservation system breaks more often than works and is not linking to confirmations. 80mb so download before going on board if you want it

Your getting there RCCL IT

Its nice to see tech changes like what this app is trying to do but work still needs to be done. My Calendar just sits and attempts to load since the last update. Also when getting to the restaurants they are not finding our reservations despite showing on the calendar (luckily it saved what was downloaded before the update). Eventually we would love to see the cruise compass in the app and perhaps an online ship map. Oh, one last thing, when trying to make a reservation at a complimentary restaurant when it gets to the step to confirm availability well it just sits here and never comes back with and results. Again this worked before the update so perhaps one of the "bug" fixes broke another link. Keep at it guys, your in the right track!

Royal IQ Is a Miss

This first version has some nice features for use while onboard a cruise ship but almost all features dont work most of the time. It was frustrating when you want to Chat with another quest but you get error messages. The calendar feature takes too long to show your calendar if it comes up at all. They need more work on this app.

Has potential

Posting this review from onboard the Quantum of the Seas. This app definitely has a lot of potential but there are a number of bugs that need to be worked out before this app can be promoted to the masses. The calendar feature is hit or miss as to when it works. It either comes up right away or just sits there forever loading. Chat rarely works correctly and seemed to lose contacts that were added in frequently. And for contacts that were added in and even ones that a conversation had been started with already, the "Invalid extension" error message was frequently received. Probably the most annoying thing is that I have to re-register to use the app about every 3-4 times I open it up. Registration involves entering in your cabin number, first and last name, and birth year so its not hard but very annoying to have to do that almost every day. Also, the one feature oddly missing from the app was any sort of interactive deck map and map of the ship. If this is already available in the app then you need to make it a little more obvious because I looked everywhere and couldnt find it.

Buggy

This app is a great idea, but a flawed execution. It is intended to allow you to access your calendar, make reservations, book shore excursions, etc. while on board. For $15, you can add texting capabilities while on board as well. However, this requires each person to pay the $15, and this quickly added up for our party of five. The app has two fatal flaws: it constantly crashes, which makes the texting function all but useless as you have to keep re-launching the app to send a text, which the other person wont receive anyway as their app has crashed. The second fatal flaw is that the app is not well integrated with the ships reservation systems. This means that you can make a reservation in the app, but it may or may not be visible to the crew member when you show up, so basically useless.

Nonfunctional

Just returned from a cruise on Independence of the Seas yesterday and was never able to get the app to work despite being connected to the Royal WiFi network on the ship.

Nice app

Thanks for a nice app. Used this on Quantum of the Seas, overall good experience. You can see your schedule, book reservations and shore excursions. Needs work on lag time to retrieve schedule, sometimes was unable to get anything. Please add compass and ship locator, and maybe weather.

Didnt even work

I tried to use this on my recent trip on Serenade of the Seas and it never connected to the "wifi" and it just stayed at the welcome screen. Not worth the frustration.

Not ready for prime time

I installed this app for our cruise of 12 days. I thought it was going to be a great tool to use on the cruise but I was very disappointed. The app has a texting feature so you can keep in touch with your friends onboard. Great idea but the texts would take over 30 minutes to go thru so not very useful. Calling feature never worked for us. If you have an iPhone FaceTime was the one thing that worked well. Even regular phone texts did not arrive timely. The daily calendar was ok but using the full calendar just resulted in the spinning wheel. Try to make a dinner reservation? You choose a restaurant, then a time only to be told there is nothing available for that time. There is no way to see a calendar showing what is available so again, useless. I stopped using it after a few days.

Did not work

Just returned from cruise aboard Liberty of the Seas. This app did not work at all. Not even a split second. Created account and logged in to royalwifi (which worked fairly well, although costly) but this app completely non-functioning.

Doesnt do 1/2 what it claims

Finally got it to work the second day on board, the connection constantly drops out and you have to guess as to how to get it to reconnect. Messages can take 20 to 30 minutes to send sometimes. I even bought a wifi package thinking that would help, but nope. The wifi is better than most but still very unreliable and buggy. It is better than nothing but walkie-talkies are still the most reliable. The most common screen you will encounter is the one that says "disconnected". Over and over and over and over. On day 5 all I get is a black screen when I open the app. My advice; buy the wifi package and iMessage or Facebook instant message, those work fine.

Full of bugs

Greatly disappointed by this app. I was not able to schedule any of the cool activities, such as the parachute experience.

All ships please!

This should be used for all ships!

Crashing

App crashes every day. Half the time Messages dont work. Very disappointed! Bugs need to be fixed for iPhone 6+ still. Update needed bad!!!

Doesnt work :(

Here I am on my gorgeous and fun filled cruise, hoping to add a little more to it with this app.....And this app doesnt work at all! Says it needs "royal-wifi"... Got it, still doesnt work. Nice idea, but completely useless! Time to quit trying! Deleting this app :(

Royal IQ

The App isnt worth downloading. It crashes constantly on my I-5. The only way to get it back is delete it and reload it. Tech Support on the ship doesnt have a fix.

Worthless as it is now

Definitely has potential but as it is now it constant crashes on my iPhone 6 Plus. I have to delete and download to use what me onboard
